  • First, Go to your nearest Bank Branch, Where you have a Bank Accounti.e. SBI (State Bank of India), SBBJ, HDFC, Punjab National Bank (PNB), Allahabad Ban, Andhra Bank, Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Corporation Bank etc.
  • Or you may go to your Local Post Office.
  • Go to An Extra Counter WindowWhere a man setup-ed for note changing. 
  • Show your Photo ID Proof, To Clerk or Cashier. ID Proof May be your AAdhar Card, Income Tax PAN Card, Driving Licence, Identity Card, Voter ID Card, Photo Credit Card, Address card with photo issued by Deptt. Of Posts. Govt. of India, Smart card issued by CSD, Defence /Parliamentary etc.
  • Then take a Note Exchange Form, From the extra counter.
  • Fill the Note Change Form Correctly. > Stick Two Passport Size photo on the form.
  • Attach a ID Proof xerox copy, Bank Acc Pass Book Photo Copy with the form.
  • Collect your Cash Note of RS 500.
  • Bind a rubber on the huge number of 500 Notes.
  • Finally, Deposit all cash into your bank account.
  • Take a Receipt.

In order to implement the above decisions of the Government and keeping in view the need to minimize inconvenience to the public, the following operational guidelines have been issued:

Important Notice to change RS 500 or 1000 Note:

Last Date for Change:

Bank Notes may be deposited by individuals/persons into their bank accounts and/or exchanged in bank branches or Issue Offices of RBI till the close of business hours on 30th December, 2016.

Maximum Limit for Change:

Bank Notes of aggregate value of Rs.4,000/- only or below held by a person can be exchanged by him/her at any bank branch or Issue Office of Reserve Bank of India for any denomination of bank notes having legal tender character, provided a Requisition Slip as per format to be specified by RBI is presented with proof of identity.

The limit of Rs.4,000/- for exchanging Old High Denomination Bank Notes at bank branches or at issue offices of Reserve Bank of India will be reviewed after 15 days and appropriate notification issued, as may be necessary.

For now, notes currently in use can be traded for upto Rs. 4,000 till November 24 and for larger amounts thereafter. Against notes that are deposited, withdrawals of upto Rs. 10,000 a day or 20,000 a week will be permitted for now.

There will not be any limit on the quantity or value of Old High Denomination Bank Notes to be credited to the account of the tenderer maintained with the bank, where the Old High Denomination Bank Notes are tendered. However, in accounts where compliance with extant Know Your Customer (KYC) norms is not complete, a maximum value of Rs.50,000/- of Old High Denomination Bank Notes can be deposited

The equivalent value of the Old High Denomination Bank Notes tendered can be credited to a third party account, provided specific authorisation therefor accorded by the said account holder is presented to the bank, following standard banking procedure and on production of valid proof of Identity of the person actually tendering.

Here’s what you need to do with your 500 and 1000 rupee notes.

  • Deposit them at the bank or post office from November 10 to December 30
  • Exchange them from a bank or post office till 24 November. The limit for exchange is Rs.4000
  • Take Aadhaar card and PAN Card when you go to exchange notes
  • After December 30, these can be deposited at the Reserve Bank with a declaration
  • Tourists can change the notes at airports

  • Petrol Pumps and government hospitals
  • Railway, airline, government bus  ticket booking counters
  • Consumer co-operative stores run by state or central government
